PCI Express
PCI Express-enabled motherboards are going to start becoming more and more common, and Elan's skills and experience are ideal to help you run your fast PCI project smoothly and solve any problems along the way.
ExpressCard
Elan has been working with PCMCIA technology for as long as PC cards have been available, and have been working with ExpressCard as this new standard was proposed and released by the PCMCIA organsation. (Along with the USB forum and the PCI-Sig group)
ExpressCard was formerly known by its codename: "NEWCARD."
ExpressCard Sizing
ExpressCard modles will be 34mm wide (ExpressCard/34) or 54mm wide (ExpressCard/54). Both sizes are 75mm long and 5mm high. Host systems can provide any combination of slots for either width of module; the 34mm modules will work in slots designed for the 54mm wide modules, but the reverse is not true.
ExpressCard Interface
ExpressCard technology uses the PCI Express and USB 2.0 interfaces to connect to a computer.
ExpressCard Modules
It is expected that in time most peripherals presently available in PCMCIA or Compact Flash format will be available in ExpressCard form factor, including memory, wired and wireless communications, identity sensors, SmartCard readers, TV cards, scanner interfaces and many others.
