Problems with 16-Bit Novatel Wireless Modem cards in PSeries Desktop Adapters
The Novatel Merlin C201, U530 and U630 CDMA and UMTS wireless modem cards (supplied by many operators including Orange, KPN) work well in the PSeries range without any modification. However in some systems you may encounter resource allocation problems, possibly Code 12 failures in Windows Device Manager.
These problems only occur with 16-bit cards, not with 32-bit cards from Novatel Wireless
Solution
Do not apply this solution unless there is a problem with your installation!
Download and extract these INF files into the c:\windows\inf folder.
To install the new inf files, search for the OEMxx.inf file in the c:\windows\inf folder that contains one of these strings :
PCMCIA\NOVATEL_WIRELESS-CDMA_1.9GHZ-01E2
PCMCIA\NOVATEL_WIRELESS-MERLIN_UMTS_MODEM-D022
If you can't find a file containing either of these strings then your card is not one of those we have developed a fix for. Please contact Elan for assistance
Delete the file that you have found. Now, with the Novatel card inserted in the PCMCIA slot, go to the Device Manager and select the "Novatel Wireless UMTS Modem Parent" device and press the delete key. Eject and re-insert the card and the Novatel card will work using the new INF file.
For Windows XP Only
If you are using Windows XP you will also need to download this INF file before applying the above solution. Copy it to the c:\windows\inf folder, replacing the existing 'mf.inf' file.
