Problems with Sierra Wireless 'AirCard' Models in PSeries Desktop Adapters

This Sierra Wireless wireless modem cards (supplied by many operators) works well in the PSeries range without any modification.  However in some systems you may encounter resource allocation problems, possibly Code 12 failures in Windows Device Manager.

Affected Cards

The AirCard 555 (CDMA) and the AirCard 710 (GPRS) are known to be affected by this problem, but other AirCard models may also be affected.

Solution

Do not apply this solution unless there is a problem with your installation!

Download and extract this INF file and save it to your computer in the directory c:\windows\inf

To make your system use the new inf file, search for the OEMxx.inf file in the c:\windows\inf folder that contains the string relevant to your card :

PCMCIA\Sierra_Wireless-AirCard_555-5A3C

PCMCIA\Sierra_Wireless-AC710-B00E

Delete this file. Now, with the Sierra Wireless card inserted in the PCMCIA slot, go to the Device Manager and delete one of the following multifunction parent devices (appropriate to the card you have)...

Eject and re-insert the card and the card will work using the new INF file.

For Windows XP Only

If you are using Windows XP you will also need to download this INF file before applying the above solution.  Copy it to the c:\windows\inf folder, replacing the existing 'mf.inf' file.
