Problems with some Linear Flash cards in PSeries Desktop Adapters

A small number of older linear flash memory cards require a small 12V current to program them. New PSeries models (those keyed for 3.3V PCI slots) cannot supply 12V, so these cards are not fully compatible with PSeries adapters.

More Information

Like most memory cards, these cards only require 3.3V to be read. However they do require a few mA of current at 12V to be supplied in order for a write (or erase) operation to be carried out. Many new lapcop PCs cannot supply the required programming 12V and most linear flash card manufacturers offer alternative cards which can be programmed with a 5V supply.
