The USB standard has been with us a long time, but when the USB2.0 specification was released in 2000, dramatically increasing the available data rates, USB devices started to become available for an enormous range of applications, including printers, scanners, mice, joysticks and other gaming accessories, digital cameras, webcams, modems, speakers, microphones, telephones, networking devices as well as storage and memory. Up to 127 devices can be connected, although you'd need a few hubs to obtain that many ports on most computers. You can even connect devices up to 5 meters away from the host.
No, we don't make USB heated coffee mugs, but we do have plenty of experience working with USB interfaces, including during development of our bridge chips. As well as USB hardware, we are familiar with the USB driver stack having developed drivers for USB devices for Windows, PDA, LINUX and Mac OSX platforms. We also have experience of firmware development for our measurement products.
